Voice
over IP (VoIP) - independent evaluation of potential
savings
A
multinational organisation had been receiving pitches from VoIP
vendors and equipment suppliers suggesting that VoIP could reduce
its expenditure on fixed voice calls by significant amounts.
Newburn Consulting was asked to complete an independent review of
the costs and benefits of VoIP. We provided a balanced assessment
of the costs including the required investment in new equipment and
other 'hidden' costs. In order to run VoIP services, networks
needed upgrading and there were compatibility issues to be
addressed for a seamless service to be provided. We compared the
costs of VoIP with existing fixed voice call cost projections and
enabled our client to make a balanced decision. A strategy was put
forward that minimised costs and maximised the benefits in line
with business needs over the coming years.

There were also questions over new equipment costs, compatibility
and reliability….and of course natural inertia when voice call
